Google has announced a significant update to its Gemini AI assistant, which will now be able to perform tasks across multiple apps in a single request. The update was announced alongside the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S25 devices, in which Gemini will become the default virtual assistant, replacing its “colleague” Bixby.
According to The Verge, Gemini is now capable of performing more complex multimodal tasks. For example, upon request, the assistant will be able to find an Italian restaurant where dogs are allowed and immediately send information about it to a friend. In another example, Gemini will be able to find the schedule of upcoming games of a favorite team and add this information to the calendar, also in a single request. We’ll keep you updated on further developments in this technology.
Expanded Features and Accessibility Improvements
Previously, the functionality of interaction with multiple apps was based on existing Gemini extensions, which covered a number of Google apps and a limited number of third-party services, such as WhatsApp and Spotify. With today’s update, Samsung apps have been added to this list for S25 users, including Samsung Calendar, Notes, Reminder, and Clock. The ability to use multiple Gemini extensions simultaneously is available to all Android, iOS, and web browser users.
Gemini Live voice mode has also received an update, but for now the feature is only available on the Galaxy S25 and S24 phones, as well as the Google Pixel 9 series. Owners of these devices will be able to send images, files, and YouTube videos into the chat interface, asking Gemini for feedback and information. Google also says that previously announced Project Astra multimodal capabilities, such as screen sharing and live video streaming, will be coming to Android in the coming months.
Circle to Search has been improved, now automatically recognizing phone numbers, email addresses, and links to make interactions easier. Additionally, AI reviews in search results now support more types of visual data, including images of places, objects, and works of art.
Google also announced changes that will make it easier to connect braille displays and hearing aids to Android devices, making the technology more accessible to people with disabilities, adds NIX Solutions. All these innovations were presented at the Galaxy Unpacked event, where Samsung also announced its new devices, including the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7 LTE.
