Google Messages is set to introduce an image quality selection feature, similar to a tool WhatsApp users have enjoyed for some time. This upcoming functionality will let users choose the quality of images they send before sending them, offering greater flexibility based on speed and storage preferences.
How Image Quality Selection Works in WhatsApp
In WhatsApp, users may have noticed an HD icon with a small gear icon in the corner when sending images. This feature enables users to choose between “Standard” and “HD” quality settings for images. Selecting the “Standard” option reduces image quality to expedite transmission and minimize file size. Alternatively, choosing “HD” quality retains almost all of the image’s original resolution, but it takes more time to send and uses more storage space.
Google Messages to Introduce HD and HD+ Options
Google appears to appreciate the practicality of this feature and is now planning to introduce a similar function in Google Messages. In recent beta versions of the app, both “HD” and “HD+” icons have appeared, allowing users to select image quality when attaching images to messages. When the “HD” option is selected, the image undergoes slight optimization to reduce file size. Choosing “HD+” keeps the image in its original quality, meaning it will take longer to transmit and occupy more storage.
Rollout Status and Future Updates
Although this feature is still in development, its availability in the beta version of Google Messages suggests that it may soon be ready for a wider release, notes NIX Solutions. However, an official timeline for when this feature will appear in the stable version of Google Messages has not yet been announced. We’ll keep you updated on any news regarding the release date and additional features that may accompany it.
This anticipated feature will give Google Messages users more control over the quality of images they send, aligning it more closely with what WhatsApp currently offers.
