NIXSolutions: Hugging Face Unveils Open Deep Research

The Hugging Face team has introduced Open Deep Research, an open-source alternative to OpenAI’s Deep Research tool. OpenAI’s version is currently accessible only to a limited number of users via a $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro subscription. In contrast, Open Deep Research provides an alternative approach by leveraging open-source frameworks and the OpenAI o1 model.

Features and Performance

Open Deep Research autonomously analyzes information online using a simple text-based browser and various text analysis tools. According to TechCrunch, the model outperforms similar AI solutions, including DeepSeek R1. It can scroll through web pages, process files, and perform data calculations. Benchmark tests using GAIA, which evaluates AI assistants, scored Open Deep Research at 54%—lower than OpenAI’s Deep Research at 67.36%.

Despite its capabilities, the tool is still developing. A TechCrunch journalist faced technical issues when testing it due to high server demand. However, Hugging Face continues refining the model and has released its source code on GitHub for community feedback.

The Challenge of Competing with OpenAI

While open-source alternatives are emerging, none currently match OpenAI’s Deep Research, notes NIXSolutions. The primary limitation is the unavailability of the o3 model, which remains superior in answering complex queries and collecting information. Until such technology is publicly accessible, solutions like Open Deep Research will likely remain less competitive. Yet, we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
