ChatGPT Pro subscribers have started receiving invitations to test GPT-4.5, an unannounced AI model from OpenAI. Screenshots of in-app notifications confirming this have surfaced on social media. However, many of these posts were later hidden, suggesting a possible bug that OpenAI may be trying to address.
The notification states:
“Try GPT-4.5 in the test preview. Pro users now have access to the new LLM.”
This suggests that GPT-4.5 could be publicly launched within the next couple of days. It also indicates that Pro and Plus users might not receive access simultaneously, contrary to previous assumptions.
Expected Launch and Availability
In early February, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman mentioned that GPT-4.5 would be released in the “coming weeks,” while GPT-5 is expected in the “coming months.” The latter will be available in the free version of ChatGPT “without restrictions,” meaning there will be no request limits. However, access to more advanced features will remain exclusive to paid users.
Additionally, The Verge recently reported that Microsoft engineers are actively preparing server capacity for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, further supporting speculation that GPT-4.5 could launch this week.
The Final Model Before Major AI Changes
GPT-4.5 has been identified as the model previously referred to as “Orion” (initially believed to be o1/o3). It is expected to be the last model without a “chain of thoughts” feature, adds NIX Solutions. With the launch of GPT-5, OpenAI plans to integrate reasoning capabilities across all its models, making AI-driven reasoning a standard feature in its products.
We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge regarding GPT-4.5 and future OpenAI developments.
