NIXsolutions: Microsoft Copilot Update – Vision and Voice Added

Microsoft has significantly upgraded its AI assistant, Copilot, adding new capabilities to make it more personal and versatile. With the addition of vision and voice, users can now interact with Copilot in a more dynamic and natural way. These updates include several features designed to enhance the experience, making it easier to communicate with and get relevant information from the assistant.

Key Features: Voice, Vision, and Enhanced Interaction

Among the key improvements, Microsoft has introduced a virtual news anchor mode, allowing Copilot to read out headlines. The new voice function enables users to communicate with Copilot more naturally, much like OpenAI’s advanced voice mode. Another major update is the assistant’s ability to “see” what you point it to, giving it a visual context that can help with a variety of tasks.

The voice interface is a notable addition, designed to make conversations with Copilot feel more fluid and intuitive. You can now talk to it, ask questions, or even interrupt mid-response, similar to interacting with a human. Copilot provides four voice options, one of which users will need to select during their first interaction with the assistant.

Microsoft’s second significant feature is Copilot Vision, which allows the assistant to view and interact with the content displayed on an open web page. Users can ask questions about images, text, and other web content, receiving natural and insightful responses. For instance, if you are shopping online, the assistant can suggest product reviews or alternatives. Microsoft assures users that Copilot Vision is safe to use, as it does not store or use any content for AI training. However, there are restrictions — Copilot Vision does not work with paid or confidential materials. One example Microsoft provides involves the assistant scanning handwritten recipes and providing a detailed explanation of the dish, including preparation time.

Personalized Experience and Broader Availability

The new design overhaul has reshaped Copilot’s interface on mobile, the web, and the Windows app. The redesigned interface is said to resemble Pi AI, a product developed by Inflection, whose former CEO, Mustafa Suleyman, now leads Microsoft’s AI efforts. This redesign includes a personalized Copilot Discover page, which replaces the standard text field with a more engaging interface. The home page now features personalized search queries, tips, and relevant information based on your previous interactions with the chatbot. Over time, this will make Copilot more intuitive, as it begins to anticipate your needs based on your history of use.

NIXsolutions adds that the Copilot Daily feature offers users an audio summary of current news and weather updates, delivered in a voice similar to that of a news anchor. Users can listen to this concise update in the morning, drawing from trusted sources that have allowed their content to be shared with Copilot. Initially, these sources include Reuters, Axel Springer, Hearst, and the Financial Times, but Microsoft plans to expand this list as the feature evolves. This ensures that you are always kept in the loop with timely news.

AI Advancements and Future Developments

Another exciting addition is the Think Deeper feature, which leverages OpenAI’s latest models to offer in-depth answers to complex questions. This feature is still in its early stages and is available on the Copilot Labs platform, where testers are encouraged to provide feedback. Think Deeper can break down complicated topics step-by-step or make meaningful comparisons, enhancing its utility as an information source. Microsoft is taking a cautious approach to rolling out this feature, considering the lessons learned from previous iterations, such as the Recall feature, which had to be reworked after its initial release.

We’ll keep you updated as Microsoft continues to improve Copilot with new features and broader capabilities. At present, Copilot Voice is available in English-speaking countries, including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, with plans to expand into other regions. Copilot Daily is currently limited to the US and UK, while Copilot Vision is available to select Copilot Pro subscribers in the US.

As Microsoft moves forward with these innovations, users can expect further enhancements and additional functions in the near future, ensuring that Copilot remains at the forefront of AI assistant technology.
